Pre and post-processar interface program

Post by Pedro Montenegro » Thu Apr 14, 2011 1:54 am

Dear users:

Is there any freeware pre and post processor program compatible with opensees (similar to GID, but freeware. demo version of gid have node and element limitations)? i'm trying to model a soil-structure interaction problem but without a pre-processor for the geometry is really difficult.

Best regards

I suggest Gmsh for preprocessing and ParaView for post processing (vtk files) .... if you're OK with some extra Tcl scripting "or any other language". Gmsh .msh files are Ascii files that you can interpret into node and element OpenSees commands. To post process, you would need to transfer output from recorder output files into vtk XML file format. I have a couple of Tcl scripts ... I can upload to the wiki if permitted.

Dear hsafti,

Would you please paste your tcl scripts to convert gmsh outputs to OS inputs and vice versa, with some brief instruction on use in this forum itself ? This will really be a great help to users like me. I do not know if uploading to the wiki is permitted or not at the moment.

Thanks and regards
