Shear wall model

If you have a script you think might be useful to others post it
here. Hopefully we will be able to get the most useful of these incorporated in the manuals.

Shear wall model

Post by samsonama » Wed Mar 02, 2016 1:04 am

Hei,
I am a new user in Opensees. The structure consist of a shear wall and column. The analysis that will be computed are:
-Modal Analysis
- Pushover Analysis
- Non-Linear Time-History Analysis

The questions that raise up are:

- It is better to model it in 2D or 3D
- If 2D, which element type and section should I use
- If 3D, which element type and section should I use

The shear wall varies in thickness and reinforcement along the height, and withstands the shear forces.

Thank you.

if you have no 3d effects model as 2d.
if 2d you can moel the column with beam column elements with fiber discretization. the wall could also be modeled using this approach, but regualrize the material properties.

the wall can also be modeled as a continuum element, as i don't think there is a way at present to build a layered plane-stress material for the quad element.
