LimitStateMaterial

If you have a script you think might be useful to others post it
here. Hopefully we will be able to get the most useful of these incorporated in the manuals.

LimitStateMaterial

Post by alirezacivil » Sat Jun 20, 2015 5:58 pm

I am trying to simulate the shear failure of non-ductile columns using the LimitStateMaterial and limitCurve Shear.
The example "LimitStateMaterialExampleDebugged" does not execute.
Also, when I am trying to use these commands in my model, when the process reaches the line associated to the limit curve command crashes.
Is it realted to the updated versions of opensees? should I use the older versions?
Thanks

I found the reason why the material was not running.

It was because the optional part (<$ndI $ndJ $dof $perpDirn $delta>) in the command is not optional:
limitCurve Shear $curveTag $eleTag $rho $fc $b $h $d $Fsw $Kdeg $Fres $defType $forType <$ndI $ndJ $dof $perpDirn $delta>
It should be written, then it runs.

I have another question regarding this material. Is it possible to use SI units or the input should be in inch and Psi?
Thanks

Hi alireza,

I am also modeling column with shear critical.. I would like to know how to calculate the value of Vi1,Vi2 and Vi3 values for assigned shear spring material model?
Could you please help me out?

Thanks

Hi Jayanthan,
I could not get rational results from this element. But about the definition of the inputs, you can look this manual:

Kind Regards,

Hi alirezacivil,

I used this manual for defining value Vi1, Vi2 and Vi3 as given in the manual. I end up in error, displayed as failed to update for displacement control (new void).
Could you please share me your opensees code for the column with shear spring problem.

Kind regards,
Jayanthan
