An Elementary Quesion NLS methods

If you have a script you think might be useful to others post it
here. Hopefully we will be able to get the most useful of these incorporated in the manuals.

An Elementary Quesion NLS methods

Post by mehabb » Thu Dec 16, 2010 11:53 pm

Dear User

I'm working on nonlinear project and I'm Very new to OPENSEES.
does opensees can do modal pushover analysis and adaptive pushover analysis directly or we
should write script for it ? is it possible for pushover analysis with rigid diagheragm in opensees?

you need to write the script .. and yes, but be careful and don't use the force beam column (nonlinearBeamColumn) for the beams

Dear Frank

Could please suggest which element should be used for beams part of a rigid diaphragm? I know restrain provided by rigid diaphragm constraint induces high axial force in the beams. any possible solution???

in reality there is no such thing as a rigid diaphragm ... model the diaphragm with some actual elements representing the true
characteristics of the diaphragm (for 2d an elastic spring, for 3d some plane stress elements with an elastic material)

Actually I have a same problem with this . It's wired that I got high axial force in dispbeamcolumn element ,even with no rigid diaphragm .Could you give any advice for this ,fmk?

the node has to be in equilibrium .. if you make the other elements too stiff you are going to have the same problem as rigid constraints.

Dear fmk, could you share a script of adaptive pushover analysis?
Thank you very much!
