steel joints panel zone modeling

steel joints panel zone modeling

Hi.
is there any element in opensees for modeling steel joints panel zone behavior?
the previously added joint element is useful for concrete joints and when I tried to use it as steel panel zone I encountered convergence problems.

there is another undocumented joint element that can be used .. it was finished in 2004 by Arash Altoontash, the person who helped develop the documented joint .. he left stanford before he could provide documentation on the element .. it is however fully documented in his dissertation.

i have worked with someone who has used the 2D version for modeling panel zone behaviour in steel .. it works well annd gives same result as other analysis software with similar modelling capability .. for steel joint and 2d model provide 1 material to command (Joint2D-1spr model)

Hello and thank you for your complete answer to my question.
i couldn't fully understand what you meant from the last paragraph. Do you mean that I can use the available concrete beamColumn element and set all materials except panel zone rigid?
i tried this and i could get good results but i think the material wastes a lot of computation time because there are 12 internal elements that are computed without purpose.
so i'm really eager to find a more efficient way.

i suggest you download the dissertation which i described and have a look at it .. the dissertation gives the element details and input .. it is NOT the element described in the manual.

ok, I looked up the web for the dissertation but I couldn't find it. Just a 1 page summary report of it could be find on Blume center web site. Can you help me where i can find it?

Hi
I am trying to use steel02 material as an element force-deformation response. the element's yield strength starts to deteriorate after a deformation of .04 . I want to use steel02 material isotropic strain hardening parameters a1, a2, a3, and a4 but the mentioned decrease starts at earlier points than I desire. can you tell me how should I set the parameters to get the deterioration start exactly at the needed point?

it would help out if you could put the command in the command manual .. it is now in wiki format and all you have to do is register and thn you can post whatever you like.
