1. Checking out the prerequisites:
sudo apt-get install make
sudo apt-get install tcl8.6
sudo apt-get install tcl8.6-dev
sudo apt-get install gcc
sudo apt-get install g++
sudo apt-get install gfortran
sudo apt-get install python3-dev
2. Download OpenSees source from: https://github.com/OpenSees/OpenSees.
3. Make “bin” and “lib” folders in “Home” directories. (If not exist)
4. Extract “OpenSees-master.zip” in “Home” directory and rename it to “OpenSees”.
5. Go to “MAKES” folder and find “Makefile.def.EC2-UBUNTU” file, then open it.
6. Go to line “90” and change “./usr/local” to “/usr/local” then go to line “91”, remove dot before “./home” then add your computer login name (in lower case) after “/home”. In my case, it seems like “HOME = /home/farbood”. Save the file.
7. Right click on “OpenSees” folder then select “Open in Terminal”. Type this command “cp ./MAKES/Makefile.def.EC2-UBUNTU ./Makefile.def”. After that type “make” command. It takes about ten minutes for compiling.
8. After compiling, there is “OpenSees” file in “bin” folder that created in step 3, for run it, use Terminal. You could copy this file to any directory you want.

In my experience at the 6th bullet it is not necessary to 'then add your computer login name (in lower case) after “/home”. In my case, it seems like “HOME = /home/farbood”'

but, I tried models ran hundreds of times with Win10 and it gives me segmentation fault...any clue?

Use Linux inside Windows in a virtual machine: This runs a Linux OS like any other application within Windows. This is also one of the safest ways to get a feel of Linux. However, this will utilize your system resources and if you have less than 4Gb of RAM, I won’t advise using it extensively.

Use a live version of Linux: In this method, you put Linux on a USB or DVD and you boot from it. This is usually slow and your changes done to the Linux system are (normally) not saved. This is particularly useful if you just want to see what Linux feels like.

Remove Windows and Linux: If you have backed up your data and have a recovery or installation disk of Windows ready with you or if you are determined that you are not going back to Windows, you can remove Windows completely and use only Linux.

Install Linux alongside Windows: This method is called dual-booting Linux with Windows. Here, you install Linux on a system that already has Windows. And when your system powers up, you can choose if you want to use Windows or Linux. This involves touching the disk partition and sometimes boot order. Absolute beginners often find it complicated but this is the best way to use Linux and Windows together in one system. And in this article, we’ll see how to dual boot Linux Mint with Windows 10. https://transgnx.com / https://skartecedu.in
