combination of moment-resisting frame and truss

Post by Halim » Thu Feb 21, 2013 6:31 pm

Hello everyone,
I am going to analyze a moment-resisting frame with some truss elements.
One member of the frame should have a shear spring while one of its end is pinned (not rigid to the frame).
Can anyone help how to set the "pinned connection" in the frame instead of rigid?

Is there any other option to be used?

Respects

the truss connections to the beam column elements will be pinned (trusses have no moment capacity). in general if you want moment end releases for a beam-column element meeting other elements at that node, you need to introduce duplicate nodes and constrain the nodes at the joint to move together translationally, but be free to move rotationally.
