I would be pleased if anybody could help me to select an appropriate element for modeling a 3D truss structure to achieve a nonlinear time history analysis.

you can either define the cross section or a uniaxial material with a constant section, using the truss.

if you are dealing with large deformations, you might want to consider the corotational truss.
