large displacement

Post by nparsaeifard » Sun Jul 10, 2011 2:28 am

My question is about analysing the structures under large displacement.
When we analyse a building which dose not have a column, can we use opensees to analyse it?
This analyse is done to investigate the progressive collapse potential of a steel structure. In progressive collapse analysis, a column of structure is removed and the structure(wich dose not have one of its column) will be analysed.
My study is about progressive collapse of steel building due to earthquake. for this reason, after removing of one of the columns at first floor(the building has 3 floors), the building will be pushed over (due to earthquake loading).
Can I do this analyse via opensees software?

with the corotational formulation yes assuming the properties you assign the sections allow the elements to undergo the deformations they will be subjected too.
