Problem about TRUSS element

Post by esi_opensees » Sun Nov 23, 2008 11:55 am

Hello

would you please tell me how i can model a truss element with an imperfection (e.g. 0.01L) on the center of element?

i think you define two elements with the node a little off center......
but someone may have actually done this differently....

Dear silvia,

thanks a lot for your help but if i define the extra node at the center of truss element, this node is hinge; however for other elements there is no problem.
i want to define imperfection at the center of TRUSS element without created extra hinge. How can i do it?

Thank you in advance.

maybe using a truss element is not the answer.
please do more research on it, see what Patzi Urix (or switch the z and x) had one in the literature.

Is it possible that we add rotational degrees of freedom at the end of truss element? If so, how?

With this technique we can create the extra node at the center of truss element without hinge. What is your opinion?

Dear silvia,

is the strategy that imancivil proposed feasible?

naw.
i'd use a nonlinear beam-column element with hinging at the ends, using two nodes at the same location and connecting the translational dofs....
