2D modeling period calibration

Post by wuhaotimothy » Wed Jun 15, 2022 3:03 am

Hi,
I wanna ask a question about 2D model calibration. Many papers simplified modeling of a building structures using 2D models due to symmetry. However, when comparing the OpenSees 2D model and the corresponding 3D model (e.g. using Sap2000) interms of structural period, normally the 2D modeling result gives a larger structural period, while the vertical reaction keeps correct (and the other 2D modeling parameters are assumed correct). I have observed that in several cases. Can anybody comment on this and give any useful suggestions in terms of this period calibration. Thank you.
