Overturning moment and Resisting Moment

Post by Gholamreza » Fri Mar 05, 2021 7:00 am

Hello Engineers,

I have modeled 20-story-5bays building with core wall. I'd like to calculate 1. Overturning moment and 2. Resisting Moment in Opensees?

1. Overturning moment:

Should I calculate the shear of each floor (sum of shear forces in all columns in each story) x (distance from the base) ?

2. Resisting Moment

Only (axial force of culumns at base level)*(distance from a point at base level) ?

For the resisting moment, you should also consider the moments at the bottom of the columns. From equilibrium, overturning moment should be equal to the resisting moment
