Hysteretic Material

Dear All,

For my post tension beam column connection I use Hysteretic uniaxial material.

$damage1 damage due to ductility: D1(mu-1) so D1 = mu -1 ? .

I have the value for mu to power of -beta, but the command asks for beta only. therefore i need to find mu ...

mu is the ductility, strain / yield_strain, calculated in the material, so not an input

the problem is my post tension connection return path goes thru 0,0. My aim is to make mu-beta *Ko such that return path goes thru 0,0. To do this, I equate mu-beta*Ko= s3p/e3p, to make return path go back to 0,0, I need to input damage1 and beta as input...However, I dont know how to calculate damage1 and beta to make sure that return path goes thru 0,0.

I hope i could make it clear.

Hmm, I don't think you can make the return path go through 0,0 with HystereticMaterial. There are two materials called OriginCentered and SelfCenteringMaterial that might do what you want, but I have never tried them.

Well, I checked them both, however, they do not allow to specify negative values. Only positive K and it uses in negative zone as well..Hysteretic allows to input different positive and negative values...

You can try combining the self-centering and Hysteretic (or any other) using a Parallel material to get different values in positive and negative directions.

I want to know that how do model [gap] in Hysteretic material for fixed bearing and expansion bearing elements in the bridge (Neilson 2005).
Can I model a gap in hysteretic material or should use other ways?
*I have being trying that by combininga HystereticMaterial with an EPPGapMaterial in a SeriesMaterial*

Yes that should theoretically work, you need to check the resulting force displacement though

Unfortunately, I can not catch a good response because there are two gaps (negative and positive) in combination.
Actually, how I model this material , besides I have to that combine two EPPGapMaterials with HystereticMaterial in SeriesMaterial !!!!
