OPensees hangs( how to kill analysis after a certain time)

Hello, i am running a time history analysis of a 2d frame and opensees hangs at a certain time step. I read "fmk" mentioning on a previous post that this might happen if someone uses ForcebeamColumn element. He also proposed to use a thread to run the analysis and kill it if it is taking too much time. I currently don't have knowledge on how to do this. is there anyone who has done this before? can you share me your code?
