Utilization of rayleigh command with zerolength element in..

Post by Deniz » Fri Oct 28, 2005 7:07 am

Well, the subject is:
Utilization of rayleigh command with zerolength element in elastic response spectra script, which silvia has posted.

Hi to all,
Regarding a perivously posted message of Mr. Frank McKenna on June 27, 2005 8:25 pm -> under the main topic "Use of Rayleigh damping command (posted Fri June 24, 2005 6:17 pm)"; it was said that rayleigh command does not apply to ZeroLength and Truss elements. So, utilization of rayleigh command in this script is questionable. I am wondering if it is possible to use damper with damping coefficient instead of former damping definition. Such as:

set sdof_C [expr 2.0*$omega*$dampingRatio];
uniaxialMaterial Elastic 1 $sdof_K $sdof_C; # SDOF lateral stiffness & damping;
element zeroLength 1 1 2 -mat 1 -dir 1 ;

Thanks in advance.
