element Recorder.....rotation

Post by dnastase » Mon Jul 18, 2005 10:40 am

I have been trying to develop a small model of a beam with hinges, and I want to find the rotation at within the hinge section. According to the manual:
"NOTE: The elastic properties are integrated only over the beam interior, which is considered to be linear-elastic. Forces and deformations of the inelastic regions are sampled at the hinge midpoints, using mid-point integration.

The valid queries to a beamWithHinges element when creating an ElementRecorder object are 'force,' 'stiffness,' 'rotation' (hinge rotation), or 'section $secNum secArg1 secArg2...' Where $secNum refers to the integration point whose data is to be outputnual;"

Has anyone used the recorder Element with 'rotation' and received valid results? Is there an alternate methodology to find hinge rotation other than using section stress/strain and further external calculation?
