Displacement Control in OpenSees

Post by jwaugh » Tue Apr 05, 2005 8:03 am

If I am running an analysis under displacement control how do I specify that for a given time step I want the structure to displace in a direction which has the components of 1.0Y and 0.3X. If the section isn't symmetric you cannot just put your load in that direction. Thanks for all the help.

you can't .. under displacement control you can only do 1 dof .. if you know
the displacements for all free dof you can use imposed displaements.

Okay, how do I impose the displacements if I know what they should be for all the degrees of freedom? I didn't know I could do that.

treat it like a multi-support excitation .. inside a multi-support pattern create a ground motion
for each displacement you want to control & then create an imposedMotion for each dof ..
have a look at the multi-support pattern in the manual.
