Energy Dissipation

Post by jvahedi_79 » Mon Jan 04, 2010 5:27 am

Hi
How could I compare plastic dissipated energy in beams and columns in a frame?

Best regards

you have to do in the postprocessing -- integrate the hysteretic energy of each.

And how do I record the hysteretic energy of each element?
Thank you Silvia,

Hello, i would like to awake the topic.

Can someone make a brief explanation of how to find energy dissapation?

Is there an example that records hysteric energy? How to do it?

Having trouble trying to record deformation of a member, i am not sure what type of deformation(which dof?) i should record, and which point (or points, or just end nodes?) of a member should be checked.

Thanks

Hi,

You need to record the stress and strain of you material in your concerned element. Then you can compute the dissipated energy as the area enclosed by shear stress - shear strain curve. Simply perform a trapezoidal integration for shear stress-strain curve.
