OpenSees capability

Post by imancivil » Fri Aug 21, 2009 8:36 pm

Hi all,
I have two questions; would you please help me?

1.Do formulations of nonlinear beam-column elements in OpenSees have the capability of describing the axial force-bending moment shear force interaction at the monitoring cross section of the beam-column element?

2.Do most of the lumped plasticity elements including beam with hinges element in OpenSees have the capability of describing the interaction between the axial force and the bending moment at the plastic hinge of the beam-column element?

these are handled by the section.
fiber sections can handle the P-M interaction, other sections can't.
btw, the beam-with-hinges is actually a distributed-plasticity element.

i'd recommend you read up on the references given in the manual about these types of elements.

in a PEER report written by Prof. Mosalam anad his student, these cases that imancivil has mentioned, are answered.
opensees do not have these capabilities. it should be noted that this report published in 2006. i do not know are there these issues yet, or not?
