Assign BWBN material to ZeroLength element ?
Hello Engineers, I was wondering to know if I can assign BWBN material to ZeroLength element? In general, How can I make sure if I could assign a specific material to a specific element? For example, I know that Viscous Material can only be assigned to truss and zeroLength elements. and now I wanted...

Re: Damping cause divergence
I use the frequency of the first two modes (w1 and w2). I am not sure about the differences between current, initial, and committed stiffness. I assume these are related to opensees source codes and integration steps. let say damping matrix [C]=a[M]+b[K]. I use the frequency of the first two modes (...

Damping cause divergence
Hello engineers, I have a 20 story SAC building modeled in Opensees. My dynamic analysis is just fine but as soon as I add 2% rayleigh damping I get the following error : WARNING: CTestNormDispIncr::test() - failed to converge after: 100 iterations current Norm: 2.31217e-09 (max: 1e-09, Norm deltaR:...

Re: Base Moment
I am doing time history. So, then I should use element recorders (globalForce) to record the forces (axial forces, Fy) in elements (columns) connected to boundary conditions (supports) at base and also get the base moment (Mz) in those elemnets and take the moment about a point ! OR I can use the no...

Base Moment
Hello Engineers,
I was wondering if there is a recorder to get the seismic base moment of structure similar to base shear ? if element recorder does so, please explain or give me the example!!

Relative acceleration to lower story
Hello engineers,
Is there any node recorder or any way I can record relative acceleration (to the lower story NOT to the ground) in MDOF ?
For example I'd like to record the acceleration of 5th story relative to 4th story ? Something similar to concept of DRIFT.

Re: Stiffness Matrix
You can use PrintA command for the elements in mass and stiffness matrices. You need to use appropriate analysis parameters.

Bouc Wen Material
Hi, I modeled SDOF with nonlinear spring using Bouc Wen model in MATLAB (yielding displacement is 1cm). I'd like to do the same thing in OPENSEES. I tried Bouc-Wen, Steel01 and also Hysteretic material but my result is not as MATLAB. How can I determine the yielding displacement in Bouc-Wen material...

MASS/Stiffness Matrix Interpretation
Hello engineers, I use Print A command to get Mass or Stiffness matrix for a system (let say SDOF) but I don't know how to interpret that. here is the example: I got this 6x6 stiffness matrix for SDOF: 2.06761e+06 0 17848 -2.05571e+06 0 0 0 1.56867e+14 -3.13734e+14 0 -1.56867e+14 -3.13734e+14 17848 ...
