try the self-centering material with a beta of zero -- that makes it act like a nonlinear elastic material.

you can put elements in series (share one node, have the same force and the displacements/flexibilities add up) or in parallel (share two nodes, have the same displacements and the forces/stiffnesses add up).

find out which command causes the crash.
i'm guessing you are assigning a load to an element that has not been defined.

if you want the periods only, they are given to you when each analysis is executed, after gravity (so you can define a gravity-analysis only). they are given on the dos screen.
