shear wall is a Area element, but hinge element or nonlinearbeamcolumn element are line. how can i assign them for wall?

in a PEER report written by Prof. Mosalam anad his student, these cases that imancivil has mentioned, are answered.
opensees do not have these capabilities. it should be noted that this report published in 2006. i do not know are there these issues yet, or not?
