I got it!
there is also a state in "Plain GroundMotion" which says "Any combination of the acceleration, velocity and displacement time-series can be specified."
So the groundMotion could be defined with both vel and dis as " groundMotion 1 Plain -disp 1 -vel 2 " , in which the 2nd "1" for timeSeries of dis and "2" for timeSeries of vel.
The results seem good. I will give a notification if there are other accidents.

Thank you very much for your reply, Mr.McKenna.
I changed the timeSeries of groundMotion into -vel using the differential of the sinusoidal displacement. I got the force and displacement. However, the recorded displacement of the node is not perfect as a sinusoidal function. There is some triangle at the peak especially when the period is small. Also the starting point of the force-displacement curve is far away from the origin. I found the explanation in the state of "Plain GroundMotion" here I quote "2. If only the acceleration TimeSeries is provided, numerical integration will be used to determine the velocities and displacements." and "4. For earthquake excitations it is important that the user provide the displacement time history, as the one generated using the trapezoidal method will not provide good results."
So I wonder if there is a way to get a perfect force-displacement hysteresis loop of the damper. Thank you very much!

Viscous damper with MultipleSupport disp input

Hi everyone,
I am using the twonodelink element to build a viscous damper, and I want to control the displacement input to get the hysteresis loops of the damper. But I found that if I use displacement as input, the force of the damper is always 0. Acc and Vel input will give the force. Could anyone tell me how to use the displacement as input?

Thanks for your advice, I am working on it. Now what concerns me is that if this kind of shell model could catch the buckling properties or not. And should I add any initial imperfection on the beam? From the results which I got now from the model, the displacement in the vertical direction is very small.

I am using J2Plasticity material and PlaterFiber section in the shell element. The model is a simply supported beam. This is the picture of it. https://flic.kr/p/VkTd5X
I put more restraints at the end of the beam and it's able to calculate but still failed to converge after several steps.

yes, particularly the buckling of the top flange due to the compression mechanism. I try to use ShellMITC4 and mesh the H steel beam. But it doesn't converge at the first step. Could you give me some suggestions?

Model the vertical buckling of H steel

Hello everyone, I want to build a model to simulate the vertical buckling of web of the H type girder when subjected to a vertical force. Fiber section and forceBeamColumn element are not able to simulate the buckling. Is there any way to do it in OpenSees? Thank you very much!

The fatigue material don't work in twonodelink elements

Hi guys,
I'm using a pair of twonodelink element to simulate a wood shear wall. I use the Fatigue material but it always failed at the first step, giving "material tag 3 failed from excessive strain", no matter how I set the maxstrain. By the way, the father material is SAWSMaterial. If I use the SAWSMaterial only, it works well. I read the source code of Fatigue from the svn,the following condition is the only part will give that warning:

If you get your cpp file from the opensees souce code, you should also add this-> before the parameters in the getCopy part. The transmit of parameters may go wrong if you dont do so, at least it happens in my file

Strength degradation using FatigueMaterial

Hello All,
The FatigueMaterial is used to decrease the stress of one material to 0 after several loading cycles. Is it possible to achieve the degradation of the strength of one material step by step rather than suddenly to 0 using FatigueMaterial? If not, any suggestions to achieve it? Thank you very much!

Damping ratio of hybrid structure

Dear all,
I want to build a wood-concrete hybrid structure, and I'm confused about the setting of damping ratio. Should I input a single damping ratio and calculate the RayLeigh damping or should I set different damping ratio for the wood part and the concrete part? And if the later one, how to achieve it?
