p-y simple material

Hi to all, I'm creating a geotechnical model for a buried structure. I'm going to model the soil elements with nd material and use zerolength elements for connection of soil and structure. Is it right to use the p-y simple material for zero length elements? I mean can I use p-y and soil elements in ...

Re: Absorbent Boundaries

thanks for your reply. The model of my project is 2D and size of quad elements (soil elements) are about 1 meter. Because of that the area term is missed. The strain rate is about 0.05 in the boundaries. Is it so large or logical?

Absorbent Boundaries

I use this method for a geotechnical model as absorbent boundaries. But in the boundaries I get large strains. What's the problem? I'll be happy hearing from you. set DampP [expr $ro*$vs] set DampN [expr $ro*$vp] uniaxialMaterial Elastic 1 0 $DampP uniaxialMaterial Elastic 2 0 $DampN node 1 16.0 0.0...

solution procedure

Hi dear all, I have a question about solution procedure in OpenSees. I’ll be happy hearing from you. I’m working on a geotechnical model for my theses. It’s a concrete frame box (using elastic beam column element) buried in dry sand (using PDMY material). I’m going to have time history analyses. I’v...

Re: Spring and dashpot

Thanks for your attention, I’m studying a time domain dynamic analyses with different time histories. You are right I should first study the theory. Which books do you suggest? As I mentioned before my problem is the wall and soil behind it and I want simulate the interaction of wall and soil. Thank...

Re: Spring and dashpot

Hi bassking, I’m trying to model a retaining wall and I want to simulate soil – structure interaction. But I don’t know to use which materials and elements for this problem. There is plenty of options like PYsimple material, Maxwell material, spring and dashpot and etc. Now I want to know how you de...

Re: Interface element

thanks Prof. for reply. I'm so confused because of this modeling. There is a little example for geotechnical problems and I don't know what to do :( this community forum was so helpful for me but in geotechnical problems I can't find solutions. Why the Soil Modelling forum is blocked? again thanks f...

Interface element

Hi to all, I want to know which element and material best describes the interaction of soil and structure? Specially wall and adjacent soil. Is it wright to use PySimple1material for simulating the interaction of soil and wall or it's just for piles? I'll be happy hearing from you. Thanks in advance

base excitation

Hi,
I’m modeling a geotechnical problem and want to dynamic analyze. Is there any way to base excitation? As I know while using Uniform excitation it’s assigned to all the free DOF’s. But I want to simulate base excitation (propagation of waves from bed rock).
I’ll be happy hearing from you.

Re: Opensees Units used

Nithin,
Opensees is unitless. You should consider a system of units (e.g. kN,m,s) and put all the parameters in that units. Certainly all the outputs will be the same.

Re: joining 2dof with 3dof elements

I'm not sure about the backbone curve of materials. As I mentioned before I'm working on report peer 2008/104 and here is the explanation of that report about springs. whats your idea about it? I need the parametrs of two material that they used. "The soil-structure interaction was simulated by zero...
