BeamWithHinhes

Hello.

Does anyone know if there is a limit value for Lp in the BeamWithHinges element? It seem to me that Lp should be < L/4 or L/8, for elements on sinhle or double curvature, respectively. Although this is not specifically mentioned in the paper.

Thanks,
L.

Yes I did. What I understand ftom the paper (ASCE Scott and Fenves) is that the curvature decrease lienearly to elastic. However, another reference that use this element seems to imply that the curvature varies according to the moment distribotion and M-C relation of the section. I do not understand...

beamWithHinges curvature distribution

Does anyone know how is the curvature distribution within Lp in the beamWithhinges element. Is it constant? Decrease lienearly to elastic? or chage according to the moment-curvature?

Many thanks,
L

Michella, I'm afraid that what you are trying to do is not possible using fiber elements. As I mentioned before there is a well known strain localization problem in sections that exhibit strength degradation (as is the case for RC elements). In displacement based elements the inelastic action is con...

Be aware of the strain localization problem with forcebased and displacement based elements. If you are interested in post-peak response increasing the numeber of elements and integartion points will only increase the section curvature at the hinge location in a very unrealistic way. Perhaps, you ma...
