EC2 AMI version

Postby beng » Sat Mar 19, 2016 6:11 am

Hi,

Using the Amazon EC2 AMI I'm getting the following error, that I'm not getting when i run on windows...

Want: uniaxialMaterial Hysteretic tag? mom1p? rot1p? mom2p? rot2p? <mom3p? rot3p?> mom1n? rot1n? mom2n? rot2n? <mom3n? rot3n?> pinchX? pinchY? damfc1? damfc2? <beta?>

I see from other posts that new versions fix this issue, but the EC2 AMI seems to be on 2.4.6 (6022) - is there an updated version? or how could i update the AMI myself?

Many Thanks in advance!

i am in the process of making one for the new release .. you can of course make your own by starting with some blank linux ami, installing and building OpenSees and then creating an image of what you have.

Dear Beng and Fmk,

Can you please explain how to follow the video and try the run the example that fmk provides to use amazon ec2 in http://opensees.berkeley.edu/wiki/index.php/AmazonEC2 in a windows machine? I have installed all the required softwares ( Python 2.7, setuptools 0.6rc11 and
pycrypto 2.3) following the links. However, when I open the Command Prompt and write "StarCluster Start SmallCluster", it does not recognize it or whatever. It would be very helpful if you could provide a small video for windows users as well. Could you please release a video to explain it so that we could run our analysis?

Thanks in advance,
Kind regards,
Cgty

Dear Frank,

I have sorted it out. The problem is the available links to install dependencies are not compatible with all windows machines. I found the ones that I need for my own pc and it is all working well now. Another issue is, when copying the files from my directory to the root machine, in the video you only write the code "starcluster put smallcluster ./ /root" and this is only for linux because "/" is not recognised by windows. So, I changed to "starcluster put smallcluster .\ /root" and it copied the files to the root. I think many people confront this issues and therefore need more explanations.

However, windows developers say that they added linux "bash" command into new windows 10 so after running "bash" the command prompt of windows is all working like linux so everyone can follow your instructions in the video.

Thanks,
Cagatay

Here is a quick StarCluster installation guide for 64 bit Windows machine. After you are done with installation on your windows pc, you can follow the steps below for Frank's example.

Please follow the steps below to install StarCluster.

1. Install Python 2.7.11 win64.exe
2. Install Pycrypto 2.6 win 64.exe
3. Install Setuptools from https://pypi.python.org/pypi/setuptools on this website, go to Windows Simplified and click on ez_setup.py. Please use Mozilla Firefox and when you click on it, it will start to set up. That is it so far.
##################################################################################################################################
4. Open Command Window and type "pip install StarCluster" and you have StarCluster installed.
5. Type starcluster help on the command window
6. Pick option 2 and it will create your \.starcluster folder.
7. Go to C:\Users\yourusername\.starcluster
8. Open config file and customize it with your own AWS account information, keypairs and so on.
#####################################################################################################################################
9. When you complete, open a new command promt window and type "starcluster start smallcluster" and you are connected to an instance.
10. Now you can try to run the example that Frank is providing on the website http://opensees.berkeley.edu/wiki/index.php/AmazonEC2

***You may also need to install Visual Studio if you confront any problems when installing StarCluster.

To run the example file you need to make some changes when you write the commands on the website. Do follow the video and try the following commands on your command promt on your windows pc.

starcluster start smallcluster
starcluster put smallcluster .\ /root >> ("/" figured out by a colleague, Miguel)
starcluster sshmaster smallcluster
mpiexec -n 2 OpenSeesMP Example.tcl;
exit
starcluster get smallcluster /root/results .\
starcluster terminate smallcluster

If you follow these steps, you should be able to download results into your local machine at the end.

Hope this helps to all windows users.

That is all, enjoy now :)

Dear Kai,

When you would like to install setuptools, please use mozilla firefox. When you click on ez_setup.py, it will directly be installed.

You will install StarCluster by running CMD in this directory C:\Python27\Scripts.

You can find detailed information here.. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... mNvekVENHc

Dear @cgtydmrc

Thanks for your sharing your resource for instruction.
I install them again in window 7 system.

I type "C:\Python27\Scripts>pip install StarCluster" in dos prompt.
Error message shows that C:\Python27\Scripts\pip.exe is not compatible with the version of windows system.

And I find the problem may be located in setuptool that value error: Entry point must be listed in groupstayou could take a look in google drive linked below.

You shoud open command prompt in this directory "C:\Python27\Scripts" by shift button and right click. Then you should type "pip install StarCluster".

***You may also need to install Visual Studio if you confront any problems when installing StarCluster.*** This is very important.

Hope this helps.
