cantilever column covered w/ layers of precast jackets

Post by blanche » Sat Jan 12, 2013 11:33 pm

i am trying to model a cantilever column covered with layers of precast jacket made of a different material.

i was able to create the fiber section for the for the interior column but i cannot include the jacket in it because it is not continuous like the interior column.

can you please tell me how can i incorporate the jackets in my model? thank you..

What do you mean by the jacket is not continues? basically the fiber section requires
the coordinate of the center of the fiber and its area, so you can always use the command
"fiber $yLoc $zLoc $A $matTag", to satisfy the section configuration that you want.

what i meant by 'not continuous' is that, the layers of jackets are not connected to each other along the length of the column.

If you assume they follow the plane section remains plane assumption, you should be able to use
fiber command to create the section. Good luck.
