In order to simulate the interaction between a structure and soil you can apply interface elements. Without an interface the structure and the soil are tied together , no relative displacement is possible between structure and soil.

Follow the steps as under:
1. define dummy node between soil element node and structure element node
2. define interface element whose one end is soil node and other end is dummy node
3.connect dummy node with structure node with equalDOF

Remember: the coordinates of soil node, dummy node and structure node are same
