Inertial Forces in Brace Members

Post by majelly » Fri Mar 15, 2019 3:53 am

Hi there,

I am using Opensees to model a concentrically braced steel frame under seismic loading. I want to record the inertial and static axial forces in the braces. Am I correct in assuming the localForce recorders only record the static force based on the stiffness of the member?

If record the nodal accelerations along the brace and multiply by the nodal masses and add it to to the static forces (Once I resolve the inertial forces into local coordinates) at each time increment, will I get the inertial force in the brace?

Thanks in advance
