PROBLEMS WITH PUSH-OVER ANALYSIS

hi,
i have a 4-story 3-d concrete model with 2 structural walls ( which i modeled them as columns ). i modeled rigidDiaph for each floor . i have no problem for my gravity analysis and i can get outputs but for push-over as i test different analysis types i again get errors. (material : concrete01 , steel01 , elastic for wall )

Use a lateral force of 1 at the node you implemented the disp increment to (node 215).
pattern Plain 2 2 {
load 215 1. 0.0 0.0 0. 0. 0.
}
If you stil have trouble,
Check the value of the " iterations current Norm: " during the gravity analysis. If they are stable, you could lower your tolerance to say 1e-5 and see what happen (does the model remain stable or does it diverge still). If the model goes off again, reduce the disp incr. and see if that work.
use this line to print the value at each iteration :
test NormDispIncr 1.e-5 20 1

You can post the script directly here.

Are the test you posted printed during the gravity analysis or during the push over? If they are done during the push-over, just change your system :
system BandGeneral
instead of the ProfileSPDL.

dear Jhno,
this error is for pushover analysis. I have already checked BandGeneral, still it does not work. my gravity file is with bandgeneral and for pushover i have checked both systems ( spd & bandgeneral ) and still i got errors.

sizin bir oneriniz var mi acaba yukardaki model ile ilgili ?
bir de soyle bir sorum olucak , MVLEM ve SFMVLEM commandlerini sadece 2-d bir model de mi kullanabilirim ? yani yukardaki code da duvar elemenanini kolon olarak tanimladim 3-d oldugu icin MVLEM kullanma sansim yok mu ?

First of all, you should try to make your code more managable. Try something like this

With this simple routine, you can code many elements whilst you drink your cofee!
To create the list_of_node_you_want you simply use the TcL function [lrepeat]. Go check it, it will save alot of your time. Your code does not have to be that long. It is because you are currently coding each element one by one :o

I think your first step would be to use elasticbeam column element. If you cannot get these element to work, the model is ill-defined. If they work, replaces each series of dispBeamColumn on by one, see if the model still works.
The idea is to make the model as simple as it can possibly be for a start. Then if that doesn't work, you need to think about it. If it works, you can add component one by one.

A couple of things:
1. If you are running a push over you don't need to assign masses.

2. For the gravitational analysis, the first time the code was posted it said:
> integrator LoadControl 0.0001
> analyze 100
Which means that you are applying the load pattern defined with a factor 1/10000(=0.0001) each time you analyse, and you are analysing 100 times, so just 1/100(=1/10000*100) of the total gravitational load is being applied at the end of the gravitational analysis.

3. You are missing
>loadConst -time 0.0
>wipeAnalysis
At the end of your gravitational analysis. This tells the interpreter that you are going to use the final stage of the gravitational analysis as your initial stage for the pushover; in other words it resets the interpreter to start a new analysis.

4. If you are working with a NL model is quite recommended to use an adaptive solution approach (http://opensees.berkeley.edu/community/ ... ve#p108733), so you can handle non-convergence.

I believe you can only use MVLEM and SFMVLEM elements in 2D models. However, just to make sure please check with the developers lsited in the relevant wiki age. Actually one of them is from Bogazici, so you may have a chance to ask directly in person.
