Plastic Hinge Rotation

Post by ali_sodja » Sun May 11, 2008 3:37 am

How can I obtain plastic hinge rotation or chord rotation in a nonlinearBeamColumn or in a dispBeamColumn elemnt?

you might have to do that in the post-processing.
there is no specific plastic hinge associated with theses elements, even though the integration weights become like plastic hinges.

it all depends on your model and how you interpret plastic hinge rotations.
you might also want to consider using the beam with hinges if you want.

Please clarify your answer. I want to use a dispBeamColumn elemnt, and I think if i know curveture and plastic hinge lentgh I can find plastic hinge rotation by integration. But for this element I don't know which procedure I must use, because I don't know the formulation of element.

you'll need to do some research on the formulation.

dear silvia
thank for your answers. finally I want to know what are the outputs of the Plasticrotation recorder? do you think the outputs are inaccurate or incorrect?

Michael Scott answered that question on the board lately, search for it, please.
There is no question of accuracy, the only question is whether it is the quantity that you want -- you have to see how it is defined by the element formulation.
