Follow the steps as under:
1. define dummy node between soil element node and structure element node
2. define interface element whose one end is soil node and other end is dummy node
3.connect dummy node with structure node with equalDOF
Remember: the coordinates of soil node, dummy node and structure node are same

create dummy nodes at the bounary of your model. dummy nodes are the nodes having same coordinates as those of boundary nodes of your model. but these are additional nodes you have generated for sake of defining zero length elements.now define zerolength element between boundary node and dummy node.
